Frequently Asked Questions:
-
Acupuncture encourages the body’s natural ability to heal itself. It involves placing very thin, sterile needles at specific points to promote balance and well-being. From an Eastern perspective, acupuncture helps restore the smooth flow of Qi—the body’s vital energy—along pathways called meridians. When Qi is flowing freely, the body can function optimally.
Modern research has found that acupuncture stimulates the nervous system, increases circulation, reduces inflammation, and encourages the release of endorphins and other natural chemicals that support healing. In other words, it helps reset the body and bring it back into balance—both physically and emotionally.
-
Physical sensations are commonly felt (like tingling, warmth, movement, sparkly feelings), but pain is not the goal of acupuncture. How the needles feel can depend on where they are placed, and individual sensitivity levels. Overall, any discomfort that does arise subsides quickly and majority of people don’t find acupuncture to be a painful experience.
-
Wear comfortable clothing that can stretch or be easily adjusted to access areas like the knees, shoulders, back, abdomen, or chest. It's best to have a light meal about two hours beforehand and to arrive well-hydrated.
-
Expect a detailed health intake that may include some unique questions—like whether you have vivid dreams or how often you have bowel movements. This helps us get a full picture of your overall health. After the intake, your treatment will begin and may include other techniques such as cupping, electro-stimulation, moxibustion, or gua sha, depending on your needs. You’ll simply be asked to lay still for about 30 minutes while your body responds to the treatment. Many people report feeling calm, light, or even a little sleepy afterwards—falling asleep during the session is totally normal!
-
The number and frequency of treatments will depend on individual needs and the condition being treated. In general, acute issues tend to improve more quickly than chronic or long-standing concerns. After your initial session, you’ll receive a personalized treatment plan outlining the recommended number of sessions.
